That I’m a bookworm, I can’t deny. Creating a website to interact with fellow book lovers and promote the long-lost pastime of reading for pleasure proves as much. But when it comes to keeping the books I’ve read, I’m conflicted. On the one hand, it would be cool to have shelves brimming with them, stacks arranged throughout the house – and my dream of dreams, a private library. Yet, with the exception of a few books I keep because they’re sentimental favorites or gifts from loved ones, I probably won’t ever read the rest again. So it seems kind of unfair to hoard them for show when they can be put to better use.
What to do then? I’ve always donated previously read books to libraries and charities, and I’ve even sold them to used bookstores (for a very tiny fraction of their value, mind you). However, I’ve since learned there are also online book-swapping communities that 1) find a new home for books you no longer want and 2) allow you to get new ones! Sounds too good to be true, right? It’s really not. The most you’ll have to pay is what it will cost to ship the book to a fellow member – usually $2 through USPS Media Mail.
